Get the best of both worlds and play videos smoother on VLC
VLC Media Player
VLC is a Media Player that is considered by many as the best Media Player around. VLC is cross-platform, which means that it works on many different operating systems such as Windows, Mac and Linux, and is an open source project started by the VideoLAN team. We encourage users to try it out, you can download your free copy of VLC player here.
VLC already comes equipped with many codecs that are provided by the libavcodec library and some proprietary demuxers that allow users to play any media formats without the need for an external codec pack such as this, but even VLC users can benefit from Codec Decoder Pack since there are still many formats (WMV and AVI are both perfect examples) that do not perform as well as with a dedicated DirectShow filter, if you ever experienced a lag or poor video quality that results in pixilation when playing a video on VLC then you will benefit from Codec Decoder Pack.
Installing Codec Decoder Pack for VLC is as straight forward as installing it for WMP, simply download and install Codec Decoder Pack and VLC will automatically use the appropriate filters when playing back videos. Please note that Codec Decoder Pack for VLC will only work for Windows users (since DirectShow is a proprietary multimedia framework of Microsoft). Also, users who installed older versions of VLC might have to manually setup their VLC player to be able to enable DirectShow support.
